2024 London - Intellectual Property (IP), Cyber and Technology Open Day
About Herbert Smith Freehills
At Herbert Smith Freehills, we align your growth and ambition with ours. We invest in your personal and professional growth and support you to achieve your ambition. And you share responsibility for playing a part in delivering the firm’s growth and ambition too.
We're a high-profile, respected and renowned leading international law firm. This means you’ll be working on important or leading matters and markets, with colleagues who are respected in their field. You'll have the opportunity to gain international exposure, by engaging in cross-border deals and transactions as well as by experiencing different cultures and offices through an international secondment on the London Trainee Associate Programme. Your diverse perspective will be welcomed, whatever your background and experience and whether your degree is in law or something different. Despite our prominent position in the sector, we’ve never been complacent, we’re ambitious and focused on growth. From our sector specialisms, to our commitment to digital legal delivery, you’ll be part of a team that’s actively engaging with the future.
Your opportunity
Our Intellectual Property (IP), Cyber and Technology Open Day is your chance to explore many ways a technical background can be applied to a career in law.
The event will include an overview of IP law (the law protecting inventions, brands, technology, media and creative work) as well as the legal side of cyber security and other areas of technology law. There will be case studies presented by our science and technology qualified lawyers, showing how their skills and interests are involved in the matters we handle: from interviewing experts in a scientific or technical field, to supervising experiments, understanding how software has been misused, appreciating how the latest blockbuster drugs were invented and recognising the scientific and technical context in which this happened, to being able to communicate with technologically sophisticated clients and even prevent or limit cyber disasters, as well as dealing with the complex IP issues surrounding AI.
We’ll also give you an insight into the innovations in technology happening in our firm and how we develop solutions for case management and internal projects, and to solve our clients’ needs.
The day aims to give you an idea of the sorts of interesting and exciting things you’d be working on if you decided to join us, whether as a lawyer or as part of our legal operation function.
Date: Tuesday 12 November 2024
Location: Herbert Smith Freehills, Exchange House, London, EC2A 2EG

We balance being human, bold and outstanding and you’ll find these are more than our values: a lived experience. At the heart of this, you’ll be supported to grow, achieve your ambitions and play a part in helping us achieve the firm’s. So as a graduate, by being ambitious for your growth and ours, we’ll achieve our goals together.
