Open Day

Kilburn & Strode Open Day 10th July 2024

About us

Kilburn & Strode is a leading firm of European patent and trade mark attorneys helping the most creative companies, protect the most innovative ideas and designs, in the most competitive markets. We have a culture built on diversity and are looking for people who share and demonstrate our values: think creatively, build relationships, take responsibility, respect others, and excel.

Every year, we recruit a number of patent trainees for our Life Science & Chemistry and Tech & Eng groups, as well as a number of trainees for our Trade Marks team. We offer excellent training, development and work experience as we support them through to qualification.

What will the Open Day look like?

We are pleased to be running our first Open Day this year which will give you a taste of life at Kilburn & Strode. Our Open Day will give you the chance to hear from a number of different people across the firm who will be able to give you an introduction to the type of work we do here, and what we think makes us stand out from the crowd. You will also have the chance to get involved in some interactive sessions, working alongside some of our Associates as you are able to get involved in activities that give you a taste for life as a trainee here!

So what does it mean to be a trainee?

For those who are keen to be a Patent Attorney we offer our Trainees the chance to be involved in innovative, cutting edge developments outside of a Lab, whilst studying towards the exams to become a qualified UK and European patent attorney. No two days are ever the same, but throughout the course of the training programme you will master the fundamentals of patent law, learn how to draft patent applications, take part in opinion and opposition work and interact with clients.

The work of a Trade Mark Attorney is incredibly varied and you will have the opportunity to get involved in registering trade marks, leading on oppositions to trade mark registrations, advising on aspects of copyright, anti-counter fitting, design queries or licencing. Again, we help to support our trainees in learning the key aspects of being a Trade Mark Attorney whilst also supporting them through the exam and qualification process as well.

Who should apply?

We are keen to hear from you if you are interested in pursuing a career as a patent or trade mark attorney, and think you might want a little more information or experience before you make any formal applications. This Open Day is aimed at students who are either studying towards a STEM degree (for those interested in patents) or humanities or a law degree (for those interested in Trade Marks) and are ideally in either their penultimate or final year at University study.

We aren’t committed to diversity because it’s “good for business” or because it’s the “right thing to do.” We’re committed because it makes our firm a superb place to work. Whatever your background, you’re welcome here because we love the creativity that difference brings.
