WLECN - Work experience programme
The West of England Legal Early Careers Network (WLECN) is a collaborative initiative launched in 2022. It brings together law firms, universities, and legal professionals to provide Year 10 students with meaningful work experience and insight into legal careers. The Insight Week is a week-long programme taking place in July and aims to provide students with a greater understanding of the various jobs available within the sector, an opportunity to undertake interactive legal tasks, gain insight from legal professionals and understand the steps they need to take to pursue their chosen career.
Programme Structure
Duration: A week-long work experience programme, typically held in July.
Format: Students spend each day in a different law firm, engaging in:
- Interactive legal and skills-based tasks.
- Mock exercises and real-life scenarios.
- CV writing and interview practice.
- Networking with lawyers, apprentices, and business support professionals.
Locations: Bristol, Bath.
Schedule: Sessions usually run 10:00–13:00, with firms providing refreshments
Dates: weeks commencing 30 June (Bristol only), 6 July (Bristol only), 13 July (Bristol and Bath)
